Anti-wrinkle injections

Having worked so hard to have healthy teeth and gums, you may feel that your skin needs some attention to help it look as fresh and rejuvenated as possible, and to complement your beautiful smile. Expressive lines and wrinkles such as frown lines, crows’ feet, and glabellar lines – those pesky vertical lines between your eyebrows – may all be making you look tired and older than you feel inside. Anti-wrinkle injections are an ideal way to reduce the appearance of these lines and turn back the years.

Like a piece of paper that’s been folded and unfolded too many times, our skin can begin to show the lines caused by your facial expressions. With anti-wrinkle treatments, we inject small quantities of botulinum toxin type A into targeted facial muscles. Botulinum toxin works by blocking the signals to your muscles that tell them to contract. This keeps the overlying skin looking much smoother than usual, and has a wonderful rejuvenating effect on your appearance.

FAQ's

Botulinum toxin has been licensed for medical use for many years. In fact, it was when researchers were using botulinum toxin injections to treat problems with the eye muscles, such as squints, that they noticed a significant improvement in the appearance of crows’ feet.

Since being used and licensed for specific cosmetic purposes, botulinum toxin anti-wrinkle injections have been the subject of a number of clinical trials and have been found to be safe in the majority of cases when used by an experienced cosmetic medical or dental professional.

We will give you clear aftercare instructions so you can minimise common side effects such as short-term bruising or swelling at the injection sites. We’ll also talk you through the rarer side effects so that you feel fully informed about your treatment.

We may ask you to come into the clinic half an hour before your appointment for anti-wrinkle injections so that we can apply an anaesthetic cream. During the treatment itself, we will inject small quantities of a leading brand of botulinum toxin type A into specific facial muscles to temporarily stop them from contracting and reduce the visibility of your expressive lines and wrinkles.

Your treatment will take around 15 to 30 minutes.

It will take approximately a week to 14 days to see the full results of your treatment. Most people find that the injections last for about four months, after which they may choose to have a top-up treatment.

No. Anti-wrinkle injections don’t require any downtime so you should be able to come into the clinic for your appointment and then get on with your day. You may notice some minor bruising or swelling around the injection sites but this can usually be covered with make-up.

We’re asked this question a lot, as it’s a common worry. After all, you want to look good without it being obvious that you’ve had anti-wrinkle injections. With this treatment, we aim for a ‘less is more’ approach where you still look natural and expressive, but with less movement in your problem areas. We would prefer to top-up your treatment after a couple of weeks than to use too much product at the beginning.
